Positive Affirmations can be so powerful as we know words are powerful, and so are our thoughts.

As children, we are raised to believe that words can't hurt us, that they are powerless.


On the contrary, words affect us all throughout our lives. When as a child or even as an adult we do something wrong and we are told we are useless we may not realize it, but if we are told this over time it goes into our subconscious mind it sticks with us, when we hear the same words enough times we even begin to believe them.

While this can be a problem, it can also be used to our advantage.

The same way someone telling us what we can't achieve can cause us to feel like a failure, we too can tell ourselves what we can achieve and feel like a success.

This kind of thinking produces positive results.

The combination of our words and thoughts can bring about negative or positive outcomes in our daily lives.

Think good thoughts and good things will happen; think bad thoughts and bad things will happen.

What is an Affirmation?

An affirmation is a positive statement (positive affirmation) repeated to oneself to reinforce a positive perspective on a goal until that goal is manifested.

We all use affirmations, although usually subconsciously.

We think negative thoughts and try to block them out, when the best way to fight those thoughts is by replacing them with positive ones.

For instance, you awake telling yourself “I am going to have a crummy day at my crummy job.”

You are setting the mood for the remainder of your day. You have convinced yourself that your day is going to be crummy, and now it will be because you won't expect anything more from it.

However, if you were to get up and say to yourself, “I am going to have a great day at my job, which I am so lucky to have,” you'd be set on making the most of your work day.

You have planned for it to go well, and you will go in with the right attitude.

Positive Affirmations can work for you or against you.

They can work for short term frame of mind alterations and long term; although long term changes of mind require a good amount of dedication.

How Can You Use Positive Affirmations?


At first, using affirmations may feel a bit awkward.

You are getting a pep talk from yourself, and it can be easier to believe what others tell us than what we tell ourselves.

Over time, it will feel more natural and the statements will stick with you.

The first point in using positive affirmations is to figure out what you want.

Do you have a bad habit that needs breaking?

Low self esteem?

Maybe you want to find love or make more money.

Positive Affirmations can be used to motivate every aspect of your life.

Here are a few pointers on using positive affirmations correctly:

dartSpeak in present tense, it tricks your mind into believing that you have already accomplished the goal and you'll feel as though you have as well.

dartStay positive, a negative affirmation has the opposite effect on your goal.

dartSay your affirmations like you speak. Self talks already feel strange, but using affirmations that are worded completely differently from the way you speak will make it even more difficult for you to believe what you are saying.

dartMake your verbal affirmation visual by writing it on index cards and taping it on the bathroom mirror, in a wallet, or on a computer screen.

Wording is everything when it comes to affirmations.

Remember, there is power in words, and you can make them work for you!
